Somewhere between starting a new job, actually getting back into belly dance and Violet cutting her first tooth, I totally forgot that it's August and I usually start my Halloween costume right about now! I think I decided immediately after finding out that I was having a girl that we were both going to be mermaids this year. I even bought this pattern....

Obviously I will be doing little....ok A LOT of tweaking to this pattern. I really just bought it for the skirt and clearly the little girl size is slightly too big for Violet come October. I’m going to do a bra and vest for my top and will most likely be wearing my power net with that, unless by some miracle I’m suddenly a size 8 again by the end of October. Seeing as I don’t plan on taking up a crack cocaine habit between now and then, I seriously doubt it. Anywho, I just love the mermaid tail on this costume. Of course, Violet will probably just love chewing on it seeing as everything goes in her mouth. For her I’m going to do a little choli type top with really pretty trims….no beads or fringe for her since I don’t enjoy having my daughter choke on small objects.

I just can’t wait for her first Halloween!!! Robert thinks I’m being silly since she’ll only be about 8 ½ months old. He asked what I was planning on doing with her and I said maybe we’ll go trick-or-treating with his sister and her kids, to which he replied “that’s stupid, she can’t eat candy”. Well, duh!!! I figure since I don’t want to gain 20 pounds immediately after Halloween, we’ll end up giving most of the candy to his sister’s kids (I’m sure she’ll love me for that).

I’ve been looking at Etsy on a pretty regular basis and found this really cute shop that has baby hair stuff. It’s so adorable! They have this really pretty purple flower that I love (see picture below). Although I’m really torn about her wearing a flower because a) they don’t have peonies in the sea and b) I want to make out costumes in an aqua blue sort of color. Maybe this lady will do a special request for me. We’ll see.

I’ve already scouted out the fabric at Jo Ann’s that I want to use. It’s this really pretty sheer fabric with a little sheen to it and shiny flecks of something or other on it too. Here tis’…

I also got about five packages of white pearl fringe a long time ago at Big Lots that I'm going to use for my mermaid bra. I really thought about using this stuff for Violet too, but then I would have to do some serious reinforcing on the fringe and I really don’t have the time or the patience for that right now.

Yay!! Now all I have to do is buy the fabric and get sewing…..ugh!!! Thank God Violet is still small and her costume won’t be as elaborate as mine. I hope she loves Halloween as much as I do when she gets older!

Oh, and here's a picture of Violet in blue for the road.....
